This series contains speeches, remarks, and congressional testimony given by Dr. Arthur F. Burns, primarily as Federal Reserve Board Chairman and as Ambassador to West Germany. Also included are interview transcripts and miscellaneous writings. In addition to press releases of the final version of the public statements, this series sometimes includes: drafts; background material such as Federal Reserve staff memoranda, statistical tables, reports and printed material, bills before Congress, and copies of speeches and testimony given by others; and published congressional hearings. Both domestic and international economic topics are addressed, as well as the operations of the Federal Reserve System. During his period as ambassador, Burns frequently spoke of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance, atomic weapons, democracy, international education and exchanges, youth, democracy, European and American economic situation, and East-West relations.
